  • Satisfaction with remote teaching and the return to in-person teaching: perception of higher education students

    Several studies have sought to evaluate how students experienced remote emergency experience due to the pandemic scenario caused by the spread of coronavirus SARS-CoV-2. This article aims to analyze the perception of students of higher education Portuguese, and their satisfaction with the remote emergency experience and the return to face-to-face classes. For this, an online questionnaire was applied to students, from the 1st year of the 1st cycle, of courses in the areas of education, communication sciences and business sciences of polytechnic higher education (n=307). For data analysis, a quantitative approach is adopted, using descriptive statistic and correlation analysis. The results show that 59.3% of the interviewees consider themselves extremely satisfied with returning to face-to-face classes. With regard to satisfaction with online classes, it shows that the majority (46.9%) are at the intermediate level (level 3, on a Likert scale from 1 to 5). Finally, when asked about the teaching regime they prefer, most opt for face-to-face teaching (68.4%), followed by mixed (b-learning) (29.6%) and distance (e-learning) (2.0%). The results are presented taking into account the gender, the course, the fact of being a worker or not and the period in which they study. The results allow us to conclude that remote emergency teaching was not satisfactory, in the perception of these students, and that the return to face-to-face teaching was accepted with great satisfaction. These results contribute to the discussion about the needs of a planned remote teaching, with methodologies and equipment suitable for online teaching.
  • Ensino a distância com recurso a MOOC para a capacitação ambiental

    O contínuo desenvolvimento das tecnologias de informação e comunicação (TIC) reorganizaram o modo como vivemos, comunicamos e aprendemos. Para as instituições de ensino superior, as TIC potenciaram o crescimento das modalidades do ensino a distância e a abertura de novos ambientes de aprendizagem, com recurso à educação digital. Como exemplo, os MOOC ganharam protagonismo a partir do movimento da educação aberta, do software livre e da disponibilização de conteúdos abertos e representam ainda uma inovação educativa, que combina e difunde os recursos tecnológicos. O Politécnico de Lisboa, naquela que foi uma iniciativa pioneira, conjunta e multidisciplinar, mobilizou quatro das suas unidades orgânicas (ESCS, ESELx, ESTeSL e ISEL), como o apoio do EaD@IPL – Grupo de Ensino a Distâncias do Politécnico de Lisboa, para a criação do MOOC “Sustentabilidade Ambiental: Mobilizar, Observar e Operacionalizar”, alojado na plataforma NAU – Ensino e Formação Online para Grandes Audiências”.
  • Towards an integrated approach on occupational health to tackle COVID-19 pandemic

    Background: Serological screening is crucial for the prevention of infection, ensuring the maintenance of the worker’s health, and thus promoting occupational health. It was reported that SARS-CoV-2 can survive in aerosols and on dry surfaces for several days to weeks. Objectives: We aimed to apply an integrated approach to Occupational Health to tackle the COVID-19 pandemic. Materials and methods: We performed a rapid immunoglobulin IgM-IgG immunoassay, ELISA, and hematologic profile among workers (N = 740), in a Public Higher Education Institution from Portugal and an environmental assessment by two sampling methods (Air N = 49; Surfaces N = 101) and RT-PCR. Results: Regarding workers' serologic surveillance, 1.89% of rapid test positivity was observed for SARS-CoV-2 IgM antibodies and a low prevalence of positivity for IgG (1.21%) in which only 33.3% were confirmed by ELISA. Hematologic surveillance data revealed the presence of 10.44% of abnormal hematological profiles, being anemia (3.78%) being the most relevant. All the environmental samples analyzed were negative regarding SARS-CoV-2 detection. Discussion: Low SARS-CoV-2 immunization and the negative environmental samples strongly indicate the effectiveness of the preventive measures. Nevertheless, COVID-19 disease alters hematologic parameters. Conclusion: In this study, it was possible to implement an integrated approach to Occupational Health combining efforts with the Occupational Health Services.
