Abstract(s)
This report, carried out as part of the Supervised Professional Practice II (PPS II) curricular unit, describes the practice carried out between 2nd October 2023 and 31st January 2024. It took place in a kindergarten (JI) setting, namely in a room with an educator, an educational assistant (AAE) and a group of 25 children aged between 4 and 6. The practice was carried out in a private educational establishment that follows the principles of the Modern School Movement (MEM) pedagogical model. In addition to characterising the socio-educational context and describing the pedagogical intentions for the action, it is worth highlighting the research problem, which focused on the following starting question: How do the speeches and records of children's experiences in a kindergarten classroom express the cultural capital of their families? with three specific objectives, such as: i) understanding how sharing children's cultural capital enables the educational team to inform their educational and pedagogical practice; ii) analysing children's conceptions of sharing their cultural experiences; and, finally, iii) identifying families' motivations when providing children with different social and cultural experiences. Methodologically, the research is based on a qualitative paradigm and a case study methodological perspective, using a process of data triangulation, namely: observation; consultation and analysis of documents; structured interviews; focused discussion groups and a questionnaire. Therefore, the family cultural practices promoted in the family context imply a social and cultural enrichment of the children, because it enables them to acquire new knowledge and skills and the sharing between peers intensifies this process. What's more, these experiences by the children inform the pedagogical practice of the educator and the EYA, giving rise to new work, projects and trips outdoors.
