Abstract(s)
articule com os documentos orientadores para a área de teatro dos ciclos adjacentes;
Abstract Artistic Education is part of children’s learning process from a very young age. As such, it falls to the School the duty to educate her students, since early and continuously, on their relationship with different subjects, helping them develop skills which may allow them to question established knowledge. Theater has that crossdisciplinary capacity to integrate emergent knowledge, communicate efficiently and resolve complex problems. The project herein was developed in a private education institution, located in the Portuguese municipality of Alcochete, having as a starting point the question: “How to create and implement the subject of Theater in the 2nd Cycle, in a private schooling institution in the Lisbon Metropolitan Area, within the legislative framework on curricular autonomy and flexibility?” This project of the research-action type follows a qualitative methodology and adheres to the interpretive paradigm. This methodology has allowed the study and research of artistic and theater experiences performed as a curricular subject, with students of the 5th and 6th years of schooling (the Portuguese 2nd Cycle of Basic Education). It sought to fulfill the following objectives: (i) To conceive of a programmatic structure fitting within the curriculum of the 2nd Cycle of Basic Education which is compatible with guiding documentation for the subject of Theater in adjacent Cycles; (ii) To describe and analyse the practice of implementing the subject of Theater in the 2nd Cycle of Basic Education and (iii) To understand how the school community assesses the inclusion of the subject of Theater as part of the curricular offer in the in the 2nd Cycle of Basic Education. The study, apart from documentary research, required the creation of the Programme of the subject of Theather specifically constructed for this purpose, overall planning of class interventions and schedules, regular recording in field notes and use of questionnaires, all of which, after assembly and triangulation, allowed answering the main question of this research and fulfill the established objectives. The results attained confirm the recognition of the importance that the presence of Theater has within a curricular context, in aiding the development of personal, artistic and cultural skills of the students. Those results also highlight the relevance of pedagogical continuity of the subject, all throughout the students’ school journey
