Abstract(s)
ABSTRACT: The constant development of the technology industry has contributed to a series of behavioural changes in the population. Access to all kinds of content through a simple click on a device that fits in your pocket has forced major decisions to be taken by digital content producers, about what, how and from which media it now makes more sense to transmit information, music, entertainment, etc. Understanding in which way radio continues (or not) to be part of young Portuguese's daily life, was the main goal of this research. Through a quantitative analysis, this study reflects the digital audio consumption habits of portuguese young people aged 13 to 19. Based on the study conducted in 2019 by Pedrero Esteban, Barrios-Rubio and Medina-Ávila, it was possible to compare the results presented by the authors in Mexico, Spain and Colombia, with the results obtained in Portugal. Although with some differences between the four countries under analysis, justified by the pandemic caused by Covid-19, which further boosted the development and use of digital technologies, what can be seen in general, is that young people are increasingly distant from the radio. It is crucial that broadcasters act to win back their younger audience, otherwise they risk losing their future (adult) listeners.
