Abstract(s)
A ‘negative capability’
O artigo pretende desenvolver a ideia
ABSTRACT -John Keats defines ‘negative capability’ as “being in uncertainties, mysteries, doubts, without any irritable reaching after fact and reason”. ‘Negative capability’ is crucial in understanding creation and poetry as places of uncertainty, identity dissolution and lack of response. Art is, therefore, a way of talking to the mystery, the muteness of the natural world and the skepticism about the existence of the other, pointing out our need for confirmation, the power of imagination and the seduction of the abyss and doubt. In this sense, it is very similar to the prayers that, in the words of Gonçalo M. Tavares, being «words turned directly to the Mystery, [...] are the weakest part of the human work par excellence, which is that of understanding». The article intends to develop the idea of this fragile place where the need to understand the world and the other leaves us.
