Abstract(s)
ABSTRACT - The present mixed project, containing both theoretical and practical components, follows the research and development process of the short photofilmic essay The Arrival of a Train, from its embryonic stage to the creation of one of its scenes. Through the virtual cinematic exploration of a three-dimensional photographic image of my grandparents' house, extending to the regional train passing behind it, produced with a LiDAR scanner, the scene directed is an enactment of a personal memory. It's in this setting that I recount the inception of a personal concern — the need to reconcile the journey (the train) with the home. This, in turn, serves as a pretext for an artistic and philosophical exploration of the reconciliation between movement and immobility in the context of photofilmic creation. Thus, the practical component symbiotically nourishes the theoretical research whose central aim is to think critically upon cinematic creation. By resorting to photographs, photofilms help to clarify, within cinema, the concepts of time, space, movement, and memory. Together with an inquiry into the relationship between photography and cinema, there’s a reflection about the convergence of cinema and virtual technologies, interconnected by media theory and the concept of intermediality.
