Abstract(s)
ABSTRACT - For the project developed within the scope of the Master's Degree in Choreographic Creation and Professional Practices, I set out to create a choreographic solo for myself, putting myself simultaneously in the place of creator and performer and taking advantage of the potential difficulties or benefits of solo work. There are countless ways to start a creation, personally, I feel the need to outline in advance the universe I intend to focus on, so that I can begin some thematic and conceptual research that will then accompany me to the studio, even if the initial idea slowly begins to fade or give way to new ideas or concepts. In this case, the motto for the creation, which I initially titled “NEM UM” and only later in the process gives way to “This is not a solo”, is Luigi Pirandello's work "One, None and a Hundred Thousand". The formats that we currently find in choreographic conception, represent a panoply of possibilities, with the boundaries that separate the different artistic areas becoming increasingly blurred. There are multiple examples of creators who integrate literary works into their compositions, serving them in different ways and with different purposes. For this project, I intended the text to be absent from the choreographic object, serving only as a motor for producing thoughts, proposals, questions, images or contexts. However, at any point did I refuse the presence of the word – written and spoken – keeping the possibility of its inclusion in the final artistic object open. The materialization of the creative proposal will take different forms, involving improvisation techniques, manipulation and construction of choreographic materials, reflections on the scenic space and its components – light, costumes and scenery – and the mediation of concepts and images that the body itself develops. “This is not a solo” takes shape for the first time, in front of an audience and on the stage of the Auditorium of the Instituto Português do Desporto e Juventude de Viseu, within the scope of the Lugar Futuro Festival, organized by the school and company Lugar Presente, from the same city, on March 24, 2024.
