Abstract(s)
Abstract The present document corresponds to the Internship Report associated with the Master's Final Project (TFM) in Civil Engineering, carried out at the company SACYR, SA., resulting from the monitoring and practical intervention in construction work, specifically in the modernization project of the Northern Line between Vale de Figueira and Entroncamento. Within the scope of the internship, besides learning the methodologies inherent to this specific field of Communication Routes, the objective was also to approach and analyze innovative techniques not only for supporting the actual construction work but also for the phases preceding it, particularly in terms of the project analysis that led to the contract, as well as the subsequent phases, specifically regarding the so-called Final Drawings, and the monitoring of the infrastructure throughout its useful life. In relation to innovative methodologies, integrated into the so-called new technologies, the following are included: UAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle), LiDAR (Light Detection and Ranging), and 3D solutions for monitoring heavy machinery, particularly track tampers. In the specific case of the project supporting this report, it was possible to use some of these new technologies in the following activities: 0rtho-photometric record of the initial state of the area to be intervened, surveying and monitoring of construction works, inspection of areas with difficult or restricted access, monitoring of subcontrators works, assessment of the progress of construction work. The use of these new tools demonstrated significant benefits, including lower costs, reduced execution times, greater reliability and precision in execution, and notable improvements in safety during execution and control of the work. Considering all the positive aspects noted, it is recommended that these methodologies be implemented and optimized in future situations. To achieve this, it is also necessary, among other things, to educate and encourage teams to use new technologies and foster a culture in the company aimed to innovation.
