Abstract(s)
ABSTRACT The present report was developed within the scope of the Supervised Teaching Practice II Curricular Unit, in the Master's Degree in Teaching in the 1st Cycle of Basic Education (CBE) and Portuguese and History and Geography of Portugal in the 2nd CBE. This paper presents a description and critical analysis of the practices developed in the 1st and 2nd Cycles of Basic Education and anchors an investigative study developed in the 1st Cycle of Basic Education with the theme: The local environment as a resource for the development of location and spatial orientation skills (1st Cycle of Basic Education). The study arises from the identification of weaknesses in the knowledge of the local environment and the difficulties regarding location and spatial orientation, in a class of the 1st cycle of basic education. This investigation took place over seven weeks, with different interdisciplinary activities that culminated in the present study. The activities under this study are organized in three stages: (i) diagnosis; (ii) location and spatial orientation skills development activities; (iii) final form. The activities carried out have always focused on the use of the local environment for the development of various skills, namely localization and spatial orientation. The results of the process, as well as those obtained in the final exercises, allow us to verify the students' evolution in terms of knowledge and representation of their neighborhood, and in the ability to mobilize skills for localization and spatial orientation using the neighborhood plan.
