Abstract(s)
The present final report was developed within the scope of the Curricular Unit of Supervised Teaching Practice II, part of the Master's Degree in Teaching for the 1st Cycle of Basic Education and in Mathematics and Natural Sciences for the 2nd Cycle of Basic Education, at the Lisbon School of Education. The study, titled "The Impact of Specialists on the Learning of Ocean Literacy in the 2nd Year," was conducted with 2nd-year students of the 1st Cycle of Basic Education, addressing the problem: How does the use of specialists contribute to the development of ocean literacy in 2nd-year students? In order to address this problem, the specific objectives of the present research were defined as (i) describing the evolution of students' conceptions about the ocean; (ii) identifying the types of interaction that students establish with the specialists; and (iii) characterizing students' opinions on the role of specialists. Considering the aforementioned objectives, a qualitative approach was chosen, with the research design being a single case study. Data were collected from student productions, recordings of sessions conducted by the specialists, and post-session questionnaires. The study results showed that learning Ocean Literacy through specialists has positive effects on students.
