Abstract(s)
processo.
Abstract - The growing number of children's choirs in Portugal, and the lack of repertoire by portuguese composers for them, have been the driving force for this project. In addition to this need, there is the importance of exposing children, during their formative years, to the diverse musical languages that make their education as solid and wide ranging as possible. Gregorian chant, with its modal specifics and unique melodies, lends itself as an excellent conduit between the tradition/modernity and education/performance dichotomies. It is in this context that two new musical works were commissioned to portuguese composers: "Missa Brevis", by Sérgio Azevedo and "Assim do tempo em que me falavas" by Nuno da Rocha, which were performed by the children's choir of the Instituto Gregoriano de Lisboa. This artistic project's report aims to be a reflection on the genesis, rehearsal and performance of the above mentioned works, as well as on the artistic and pedagogical conclusions taken from the process.
