Abstract(s)
ABSTRACT - This internship report was carried out as part of the Master's Degree in Dance Teaching at the Superior School of Dance at the Polytechnic Institute of Lisbon, in Portugal. The internship was implemented in the 2022/2023 academic year at PALLC° - Performing Arts School & Conservatory, within the Classical Dance Technique classes of the 1st year (2nd cycle) of the Specialized Artistic Education. The aim of this research study was to promote the development of body awareness, autonomy, and the role of the student in their personal dance practice, through the implementation of a somatic approach in the teaching-learning process for students in the 1st year of the Specialized Artistic Education in the Classical Dance Technique. The research methodology of this study was action research, which used as its theoretical basis research of the following topics: Classical Dance Technique, Body Awareness, Autonomy, and Protagonism in the teaching-learning process. In its practical part, the methodology relied on data collection tools such as a questionnaire, a logbook, a video and photo recording. Our conclusion demonstrates that the somatic approach can be used as a teaching-learning methodology for the body, which uses different dance techniques as a tool and language for experimenting with specific aspects such as, in the case of this study, the action of the feet, postural alignment and weight transfers in the Classical Dance Technique. It also allows teachers to constantly reflect on and renew their practice, as this approach is based on maintaining the relationship between the student, the object of learning, and the teacher.
