Esta investigação analisa as representações de amor romântico no filme de
1991, dos estúdios Walt Disney, Beauty and the Beast. Tendo como base dois tipos
de relação, com desfechos distintos, o estudo estabelece uma comparação entre o
Monstro e Gaston e o modo como a sua ligação a Belle é representada. A principal
meta é entender quais os códigos audiovisuais utilizados para transmitir a informação
de que dadas personagens nutrem amor romântico. Simultaneamente, procurou-se
compreender que mensagens acerca da temática persistem, tendo em conta algumas
das críticas desenvolvidas acerca do conceito contemporâneo de amor romântico e
do modo como é representado nos filmes de Hollywood. Para responder a estas
questões, recorreu-se à técnica de análise de conteúdo.
ABSTRACT: This investigation analyses the representations of romantic love in the 1991’s movie Beauty and the Beast, by the Walt Disney Studios. The study establishes a comparison between two different types of relationships, with disparate endings (Belle and the Beast’s and Belle and Gaston’s). The main goal is to understand which audiovisual codes are put to use in order to tell the audience that a certain set of characters is in love. Simultaneously, it investigates the message that prevails about love, as depicted in the film. Some critical reviews about Hollywood and the way it portrays romantic love were considered. The technique used to answer these questions was a content analysis.
