Abstract(s)
The present work focus on a specific set of structures, steel and concrete towers that support telecommunications equipment. It is its main goal to study the different types of structures that exist at a national level, and to analyze a set of questions observed during the expected life of the designated towers. This monograph approaches the different aspects to be considered in the preventive maintenance of the infrastructures park, and from the considered case studies, it was important to distinguish a great variety of the possible solutions to implement. However, the approach to the tower inspection and maintenance is, whenever possible, based on the distinction of its main basic material, whether they´re made of steel or concrete. Moreover, all the tower assessments and tests are always referred to national and / or European standards that govern each test. All the results and information gathered from the inspections are analyzed; the most common pathologies and critical issues to the durability and integrity of the steel and concrete towers are recorded, serving as a kick off point to the defining and planning of all the conservation actions needed. Furthermore, the materials and construction techniques indicated in the maintenance of these types of structures are presented, with special emphasis on the anticorrosive treatment of metallic elements, always targeting at minimize the impact on the customer. Finally, two case studies are presented, one steel tower and one reinforced concrete tower. In each case, the anomalies were registered and analyzed according to the previously studied actions, and the previously mentioned maintenance procedures and techniques were applied.
