Abstract(s)
This report was developed within the Supervised Teaching Practice II and is divided into two sections. In the first part, it is presented a summary description of the teaching pratice that occurred in the 1st Cycle of Primary Education and in the 2nd Cycle of Primary Education. It also proposes a critical and reflective analysis that compares the pedagogic pratice that took place in both cycles. In the second part, it presenteds an empirical study, conducted with one of 6th grade classrooms, where the Supervised Teaching Practice II occured. The study is about the misconceptions students hold about the functioning of the human cardiovascular system. The main purpose of the study is to (i) identify the students’ misconceptions about the cardiovascular system; (ii) elaborate a sequence of activities that could solve those misconceptions and (iii) verify if there had been any changes in the students’ misconceptions regarding the cardiovascular system, after the activities had been applied. There were 19 participants on the study, between the ages of 11 and 12 years old. Regarding the methodology used, the study followed the characteristics of an action reaserch. To collect the data from the students a questionnaire was applied both in the beggining of the intervention and at the end. In order to analyze the data obtained, techniques such as statistical analysis and content analysis were used. The results of the study allowed the identification of the misconceptions about the cardiovascular system that the students held and proved that the sequence of activities was effective in the deconstruction of some of the misconceptions identified.
