Abstract(s)
The following report is part of the curricular unit on Supervised Teaching Practice II, of the 2nd year of the Master’s Degree in Teaching in the 1st Cycle of Primary Education and Maths and Science in the 2nd Cycle of Primary Education, from Escola Superior de Educação de Lisboa (ESELx). The report integrates a description of two interventions, one in the 1st Cycle of Primary Education and other in the 2nd Cycle of Primary Education. It also includes a study about Misconceptions related to Animals issue, and its goals were the identification, analysis and deconstruction of students’ misconceptions. For that a questionnaire was administrated before and after a set of sessions where different concepts about animals were explored. The questionnaire was divided in six different parts: i) the environment in which animals live; ii) the association of animals as part of the Portuguese fauna; iii) the type of coating; iv) the type of food; v) the type of reproduction and, finally, vi) the type of locomotion. This study involved twenty children from the 2nd grade of 1st Cycle of Primary Education, with ages between seven and eight years of age. The implemented methodology was of a mixed nature: i) quantitative – analysis and comparison of the answers obtained in the questionnaires and, ii) qualitative – analysis of students' productions resulting from the Project Work carried out. From the results obtained in the post-test, it was concluded that some misconceptions were deconstructed but others remained in a few pupils such as: the identification of the environment(s) in which an animal can live; the identification of the diet and ways of locomotion of some animals; the association of some animals to the Portuguese fauna; and the identification of types of reproduction. Finally, a reflection regarding all the practice is included, highlighting its contributions and skills developed during the process.
