Abstract(s)
The academic library is the space where information is organized, evaluated, and disseminated, so institutions see their libraries as support centres for teaching and learning processes. The Polytechnic Institute of Lisbon, with its eight schools/institutes, has eight libraries with their specific characteristics: technology, arts, accounting, communication, and education sciences. Reflecting the ever-changing needs of their users, these libraries have served two complementary purposes: institutional curricular and research support for teachers and students. Beyond their traditional functions, how have IPL librarians adapted and re-conceptualized their knowledge and skills in the context of the institutional mission? A survey of IPL librarians was conducted to compile the skills and knowledge acquired, or yet to be acquired, to ensure an effective response to the academic community.
