- Physiotherapy intervention in Angola: what physicians think?Publication . Leal, Edilson; Pedro, LuisaBackground: Physical therapy is an essential part of health systems. Physiotherapists can practice independent of other health professionals and also in the context of programs and interdisciplinary projects of habilitation/rehabilitation with the aim of giving function and quality of life in individuals with loss movement. There are guidelines for physiotherapists based on international standards issued by the World Confederation of Physical Therapy. (WCPT), what must be followed by physiotherapists globally. There are several health problems in Angola such as Malaria, stroke and traffic accidents that require physical therapy intervention in their rehabilitation process. Since doctors are professionals first contact in Angola responsible for referral of patients for physical therapy, it is pertinent to understand their awareness of the importance of the intervention of physiotherapists. Purpose: This study sought to investigate the perception of medical professionals in orthopedics, neurology and general practitioner of some hospital institutions in Luanda, Porto Amboim, Sumbe in Angola on the intervention of physiotherapists. Methods: The method used was quantitative descriptive and exploratory. The evaluation was conducted through a questionnaire response you close to 19 items, and the first part of the characterization of the sample (5 Items) and the second part consisting for items the advice of the doctors on the intervention of the physiotherapist in Angola (14 Items). The sample consisted of 38 doctors from orthopedists, neurologists and general practitioner in Luanda, Porto Amboim and Sumbe in Angola. For the analysis of the data was used IBM software Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS statistics 20.0for Windows®). Results: The 38 individuals in the study 22 were male and 16 were female, Luanda is the city with the highest frequency of individuals who participated in the study, most are a general practitioner and worked in private clinics. Most believe that physiotherapists have a specific body of knowledge and can support their interventions. Most participants said that doctors have little knowledge of the professional physiotherapist role and not always refer their patients to physical therapy. The results of the study showed that neurologists and orthopedists have a perception of the greater importance of physiotherapy intervention. Conclusion(s): The doctors think it is important the intervention of the physiotherapist, and the three specialties orthopedics was considered as the one that needs more of the physiotherapist performance. Implications: This work can serve as an indicator of the view that doctors in Angola have of physiotherapists, can also serve to raise awareness of policies related to the integration of the physiotherapist in the multidisciplinary team in Angola.
- Electrons or protons: what is the cause of forest fires in western europe on june 18, 2017?Publication . Radovanovic, Milan; Gomes, João; Yamashkin, Anatoly A.; Milenkovic, Milan; Stevančević, MilanForest fires in Portugal (June 17–24, 2017) destroyed 64 lives and caused considerable material damage. The coronal hole CH807 and the energy region S5710 were in the geoeffective position on the Sun immediately before the outbreak of fires. In the period that preceded it, as well as at the time of the fires, increased values of the solar wind (SW) parameters (temperature, speed and density of particles) were recorded. In addition, a geomagnetic disorder was recorded. The shape and size of the burning areas, as well as the low air pressure over Portugal indicate the possibility of the effect of positively charged particles that came from the area south, i.e. southwest of Portugal. Nevertheless, it is a specific case that would have to be investigated in more detail.
- When is a surface foam-phobic?Publication . Teixeira, Miguel; Arscott, Steve; Cox, Simon; Teixeira, Paulo• In confined foams there exist wall Plateau borders (PBs), or menisci, where the films meet the confining substrates. • What is the shape of a PB of a given size on a surface of a given wettability (i.e., contact angle θc)? Can that surface support a foam? • This is important for firefighting foams, containers for foamy foodstuffs, etc • We solve the Young-Laplace equation with gravity for a planar film spanning a gap between two horizontal, flat substrates, to predict the shape of the PBs. • Validate results by comparing with Surface Evolver and experimental data
- Mycotoxins in coffee: what reality?Publication . Viegas, Susana; Viegas, Carla; Oliveira, Ana Cebola de; Twaruzek, Magdalena; Kosicki, Robert; Grajewski, JanCoffee is a valuable product due to the still increasing demand for production and consume. Brazil, Vietnam and Columbia are the bigger producers and Finland, Norway and Netherlands are the countries with higher rates of consumption. Unfortunately, it is subjected to various contaminations that can have an important impact in consumer’s health and economy. The major compound of concern is ochratoxin A (OTA) but other mycotoxins can be present. However, roasting process has an important role in reducing mycotoxins presence, depending upon the combination of time and temperature. Since each European country applies different roasting conditions, significant differences in mycotoxins concentrations occur across the world even when the origin of the coffee beans is the same. Considering the above the aim of this study was to analyze mycotoxins (OTA, aflatoxins (AF) and citrinin (CIT)) in coffee ready to be consumed from different markets and different brands: Portugal (6), Austria (3), United States (2) and Timor (1). Twelve samples were collected from different types of brands sold as roasted beans. The extraction of OTA, CIT and AF was done on the immunoaffinity column Ochraprep (RBiopharm), CitriTest HPLC and AflaTest WB (Vicam), respectively. Mycotoxins were analyzed with HPLC-FLD (Merck-Hitachi). CIT and AF were not detected. OTA was detected in all the samples from Austria (2 results < 0.4 μg/Kg and 0.43 μg/Kg). In one of the Portuguese samples it was detected OTA (< 0.4 μg/Kg). Since the coffee beans have probably the same origin, it seems that indeed the roasting process adopted in each country and coffee industries influence the presence of mycotoxins. Further studies should be developed aiming to analyze other mycotoxins considering the possible climate changes influence. Additionally, a study should be developed to allow identifying how the roasting conditions adopted in each European country impact the presence of mycotoxins in coffee.
- Phase behaviour of pure and mixed patchy colloids - theory and simulationPublication . Teixeira, Paulo; Tavares, JoseWe review the phase behaviour of pure and mixed patchy colloids, as revealed (mostly) by theory and computer simulation. These experimentally-realisable systems are excellent models for investigating the general problem of the interplay between (equilibrium) phase transitions and self-assembly in soft condensed matter. We focus on how liquid vapour condensation can be pre-empted by the formation of different types of aggregates, in particular rings, which we argue is relevant to the criticality of empty fluids and network fluids, and possibly also of dipolar fluids. In this connection we also discuss percolation and gelation in pure and mixed patchy colloids. Finally, we describe the rich phase behaviour of (mostly binary) patchy colloid mixtures.
- The impact of the Basel Accords in lending activity: The case of Portugal and GermanyPublication . Sabino, Ana Rita Teixeira Borges; Carvalho, Doutor Joaquim Paulo Viegas deThe impact of the Basel Accords implementation in lending availability is approached in this dissertation. Based in Naceur and Kandil (2013) models, the Portuguese and the German banking sectors are assessed, having in mind the main question: did the Basel Accords implementation reduced lending availability? Our findings show that lending was reduced after implementation of the Basel Accords but also due to macroeconomic conditions. However, some limitations in this study are found in the end of the analysis.
