Abstract(s)
A presente dissertação reflete sobre a forma como a violência de género foi agendada pela
imprensa nacional. O desenvolvimento teórico da investigação está ancorado à hipótese
da função do agenda-setting dos media aplicada às notícias sobre violência de género. O
principal objetivo do trabalho foi perceber de que forma a imprensa diária portuguesa
(Público e Correio da Manhã) procedeu ao agendamento das peças jornalísticas deste
tema, em tempos de pandemia de Covid-19. O corpus da análise foi trabalhado a partir
de uma análise de conteúdo temática, que procurou responder aos três objetivos que
orientam a presente investigação: analisar a dimensão estrutural dos jornais no espaço
que dedicam às peças sobre violência de género (por exemplo a secção, a enfatização, o
formato jornalístico e o tamanho da peça); comparar a dimensão textual dos jornais na
construção das peças sobre violência de género (descrição dos factos, romantização,
motivos do crime, etc.); perceber a quem é atribuído o protagonismo e como surgem
caracterizados as vítimas e os agressores nas peças dos jornais, através de uma dimensão
imagética. Concluiu-se que durante o período em análise a violência de género foi
subestimada relativamente à violência doméstica.
ABSTRACT: This dissertation reflects on the way in which gender violence was set by the national press. The theoretical development of the investigation is anchored to the hypothesis of agenda-setting applied to news about gender violence. The main goal of this study was to understand how the portuguese daily press (Público and Correio da Manhã) proceeded with setting the agenda of journalistic pieces on this topic, in times of the Covid-19 pandemic. The corpus of the analysis was worked from a thematic content analysis, which sought to respond to the three objectives that guide this investigation: to analyze the structural dimension of newspapers in the space dedicated to news about gender violence (for example, the section, the emphasis, the journalistic format and the size of the piece); to compare the textual dimension of newspapers in the construction of news about gender violence (description of the facts, romanticization, reasons for the crime, etc.); to understand to whom the protagonism is attributed and how the victims and aggressors are characterized in newspaper articles, through the imagery dimension. It was concluded that during the period under analysis, gender violence was underestimated in relation to domestic violence.
