Abstract(s)
Abstract - The film musical is an iconic genre of classical Hollywood cinema. Among its several sub genres the most acclaimed was the integrated dance musical, developed in the 1940s and 1950s by filmmakers like Stanley Donen and Vincente Minnelli. By organically integrating dance, music and song in the drama, these movies, with its highly stylized miseen- scène, represent a mannerist-baroque stream of the classical Hollywood cinema and can be classified as “total works of art”.
