A crise financeira despoletou uma série de questões sobre o nível de literacia financeira das populações mundiais. Um pouco por todo o mundo foram realizados estudos e chegou-se a uma conclusão: o nível de literacia financeira das populações é baixo. Nos dias de hoje em que, cada vez mais, existe uma maior diversidade e complexidade de produtos financeiros, torna-se importante que os indivíduos detenham um certo nível de conhecimento dos mesmos por forma a tomarem decisões mais conscientes e com maior responsabilidade. Desta forma, é também, de extrema importância que as instituições financeiras, as
escolas e as empresas privadas tenham um papel fundamental na educação financeira de adultos e crianças. A educação financeira revela-se, assim, como um dos fatores que a par com o rendimento, a saúde, o emprego, a idade e o contexto socioeconómico, contribuem para o bem-estar financeiro das populações.
The financial crisis triggered a series of questions about the level of financial literacy of the world’s populations. All over the world have been studies and they came to a conclusion: the level of financial literacy of the population is low. These days in which, increasingly, there is a greater diversity and complexity of financial products, it is important for individuals to hold a certain level of knowledge of them in order to make more informed decisions and with greater responsibility. Thus, it is also extremely important that financial institutions, schools and private companies have a key role in financial education of adults and children. Financial education is revealed, as well as one of the factors that together with income, health, employment, age and socio-economic context, contribute to the financial wellbeing of populations.
