Abstract(s)
Abstract This study, undertaken as part of the Master's in Artistic Education at the School of Education of the Polytechnic Institute of Lisbon, involved the development and implementation of two workshops. These workshops examined the relationship between two-dimensionality and three-dimensionality in Visual Arts within a formal educational framework, emphasizing the artistic legacies of Lourdes Castro and Alexander Calder. Participants explored this dialectic by creating two-dimensional works derived from three-dimensional forms, using shadows as a medium, and then reversing the process to construct three-dimensional objects from two-dimensional shapes. Through this interplay, students deepened their understanding of the artists’ biographical, artistic, and cultural contexts, experimented with new materials and techniques, and engaged with methodologies designed for teaching artistic education. The study employed the Action Research methodology, which allowed for iterative reflection and adaptation during the research process.
