Abstract(s)
Abstract This study, carried out within the scope of the Master's Degree in Portuguese Didactics at the Lisbon Higher School of Education, is part of the theme of reading habits and literacy development in the school population of the 1st CEB and aims to: i) analyse how the reading and writing habits of school-age children affect the development of literacy in the 1st cycle, in order to identify, know and characterize them as good practices associated with the development of literacy; ii) get to know the reading habits of the families of children from the 1st CEB, given the use they make of the municipal structures to support and promote reading, and iii) mobilize this knowledge for the adequacy of the pedagogical practices of teachers in the context of the classroom, as well as good practices of families regarding reading and writing habits. This study, of a correlational nature, was carried out from data collected through questionnaires and tests from a sample of students from the 1st CEB of a public school in the metropolitan area of Lisbon. Combining the perspective of the family as an environmental factor of excellence, and the perspective of the school as an indisputable promoter of a quality educational environment, this study allows for reflection on the factors that influence the acquisition of literacy, deepens its impact and, despite its limitations, concludes that good practices in terms of reading habits are crucial in building the literacy of a school-age child.
