Abstract(s)
ABSTRACT This report was written as part of the Supervised Teaching Practice II course, which is part of the Masters in Teaching in the1st Cycle of Basic Education and Portuguese and History and Geography of Portugal in the 2nd Cycle of Basic Education. It is divided into two parts: (i) description and critical analysis of the pedagogical practice carried out in the 1st and 2nd CEB; and (ii) presentation and development of the study carried out with a 1st grade class of the 1st CEB. Several studies have pointed to the relevance of Children's Literature as an advantageous instrument for the construction of learning. This is the reasoning behind this report entitled Children's Literature as a promoter of environmental studies learning. It aimed to present and explore children's books that addressed environmental and ecological concepts, to provide integration between the areas of Language and Science and promote attitudes of environmental preservation. To carry out this Action Research, an interview was applied to understand the students' conceptions about children's literature, as well as a questionnaire was implemented in a moment before the implementation of the study, as well as at the end of it, which made it possible to collect relevant data on the learning acquired by students that were later analyzed to provide answers to the research questions that outlined the entire action process. The results of the implementation showed that the approach to Environmental Studies content in the 1st grade through Literature for Children is a beneficial strategy for the construction of knowledge in this subject area. Through this pedagogical action, students had the opportunity to build knowledge about the concepts of Environmental Education, intending to promote responsible and conscious attitudes towards environmental conservation.
