Abstract(s)
ABSTRACT: Technological advancement in medical devices in healthcare institutions has evolved to increasingly improve the quality of life of human beings. One of the causes of this evolution was the creation and improvement of medical devices, which facilitate the work of healthcare professionals, bringing more reliability to medical practices. However, with constant use and the need to keep them in working order, maintenance becomes necessary. The objective of this dissertation is to indicate which practices are used in a healthcare unit located in Lisbon that contribute to ensuring the suitability of medical devices, and to what extent they are by internationally recommended methodologies. To this end, a literature review is carried out on the maintenance management models for medical devices used, to guarantee their suitability. Subsequently, semi-structured interviews were carried out with members of the management of the Lisbon health unit, the target of this study. The interviews were later transcribed, and the content analysis technique defined by Bardin was used. During the analysis of the results, the study revealed that there were deficiencies in terms of resources and means of communication used in the operationalization of maintenance, as well as it was not possible to reach an understanding of the maintenance management model used. It was concluded that the Lisbon health unit uses practices to guarantee the suitability of medical devices, but they are not completely following international methodologies.
