Esta dissertação explora a acessibilidade para pessoas com deficiência no contexto do teatro em Portugal. Investigo os desafios, iniciativas e melhores práticas voltadas para promover uma experiência teatral inclusiva e enriquecedora.
A pesquisa aprofunda conceitos-chave de acessibilidade, enquadramentos legais em Portugal, e aborda também as necessidades específicas do público e artistas com deficiência no teatro, abrangendo as dimensões arquitetónica, de comunicação, informacional e de serviço. Além disso, a tese destaca casos de sucesso de teatros acessíveis e parcerias que promovem a acessibilidade no teatro. Discuto ainda obstáculos na implementação da acessibilidade, incluindo dificuldades práticas e barreiras atitudinais e culturais.
Por último, a tese propõe medidas para teatros, gestores/as culturais e políticas públicas, que visam promover a acessibilidade ao teatro, enfatizando a importância de uma cultura inclusiva no cenário teatral português, e sublinha o papel do teatro na promoção da inclusão, diversidade e transformação social.
ABSTRACT - This thesis explores accessibility for individuals with disabilities in the context of Portuguese theater. It investigates the challenges, initiatives, and best practices aimed at fostering an inclusive and enriching theatrical experience. The research delves into key accessibility concepts, legal frameworks in Portugal, and also addresses the specific needs of the theater going audience and artists with disabilities across architectural, communication, informational, and service dimensions. Furthermore, the thesis highlights successful cases of accessible theaters and partnerships promoting accessibility in theater. It discusses hurdles in implementing accessibility, encompassing practical difficulties and attitudinal and cultural barriers. Lastly, the thesis offers recommendations for theaters, cultural managers, and public policies to promote theater accessibility, emphasizing the significance of an inclusive culture in the Portuguese theatrical landscape, and highlights theater's role in promoting inclusion, diversity, and societal transformation.
