ABSTRACT - Introduction: The prevalence of obesity in adults and children has been increasing, the pre-school age has special relevance in the adoption of eating habits. Objectives: Evaluate the energetic value of meals eaten in the kindergarten and relate them to nutritional status, gender and residence of the child. Methodology: Anthropometric data collection and assessment of dietary intake of children through a questionnaire and weighing the food consumed in the kindergarten. Results: Of the 153 children studied, there was a prevalence of overweight/obesity and obesity of 5.9% and 6.5% respectively, showing boys and children from rural areas higher values as well as a higher percentage of ingested energy in meals eaten in the kindergarten. In 83% of children, there was a higher energy consumption for energy needs. Conclusion: In this study, we found a higher energy consumption to the needs in the meals eaten in the kindergarten for children and a total of meals eaten throughout the day. We also verified the existence of differences in food selection by gender and residence of the child in the small meals.
