Abstract(s)
In Portugal, the Managing Entities (ME) of the drinking water sector are obliged to communicate annually to the regulator – Regulatory for Water and Waste Services (RWWS) – a set of indicators that reflect their performance in different areas. Specifically, regarding energy management of drinking water in pumping stations, there is a global indicator (AA16ab), which is intended to reflect the good practices of ME. The calculations made, indicate that in Portugal 100 GWh of electricity should be wasted annually in the water pumping stations, which should be equivalent to 10 million euros. In the present work we studied the state of the art with regard to centrifugal pumps and asynchronous motors and followed three interventions in pumps, having been applied diferente types of application and coatings. Data from performance evaluation was compared: factory, before and after maintenance intervention. With coated pumps, the benefits after maintenance interventions could be, in a certain operation point, eleven points higher (for example, from 64% to 75%). Factory performances have been overtaken, whatever coating product we consider. At the same time, the evaluation of machine’s condition was carried out before and after the maintenance intervention, in order to fit the methodology into a true maintenance management policy.
