Abstract(s)
A discriminação contra a comunidade LGBTI+ em Portugal mostra-se persistente. As crenças
ideológicas podem gerar falta de informação que, por sua vez, cria estereótipos. A realidade das
drag queens mostra-se sub-representada conferindo falta de visibilidade, aceitação e
credibilidade a esta expressão artística. O projeto Drag Must Go On surge sob a forma de
documentário educacional e informativo destinado a qualquer audiência. André e Eduardo, que
dão vida a Miss Velvet e Fortuna Beige, partilham as suas histórias e oferecem ao espectador a
oportunidade de mergulhar no mundo da arte drag. Com o objetivo de dar a conhecer um tema
ainda tão pouco compreendido, o presente projeto procurou conhecer o caráter performativo e
transitório de uma drag queen, a fim de perceber qual o papel do contexto social na construção
de uma performance e na revelação da persona. Com base em três análises fílmicas, concluiu-
se que a obra ficcional fez a melhor representação da persona, uma constatação que influenciou
diversas escolhas narrativas, estéticas e estilísticas. Não obstante a discriminação existente, a
arte drag encarou um crescimento nos últimos anos potenciado pelo sucesso do reality show
RuPaul’s Drag Race, que a levou no caminho do mainstream. O projeto permitiu concluir que
a performance drag, enquanto valor cultural, nunca poderá ser considerada como padrão pelo
seu papel disruptivo da construção social binária de homem/mulher através da representação
do feminino num corpo masculino.
ABSTRACT Discrimination against the LGBTI+ community in Portugal is persistent. Ideological beliefs can lead to a lack of information, which in turn creates stereotypes. The reality of drag queens is under-represented, giving this artistic expression a lack of visibility, acceptance and credibility. The Drag Must Go On project takes the form of an educational and informative documentary aimed at any audience. André and Eduardo, who give life to Miss Velvet and Fortuna Beige, share their stories and offer the viewer the opportunity to immerse themselves in the world of drag art. With the aim of making known a subject that is still so little understood, this project sought to learn about the performative and transitory nature of a drag queen, in order to understand the role of the social context in the construction of a performance and in the reveal of the persona. Based on three film analyses, it was concluded that the fictional work provided the best representation of the persona, a finding that influenced various narrative, aesthetic and stylistic choices. Despite existing discrimination, drag art has seen growth in recent years, boosted by the success of the reality TV show RuPaul's Drag Race, which took it into the mainstream. The project led to the conclusion that drag performance, as a cultural value, can never be considered as a standard because of its disruptive role in the binary social construction of man/woman through the representation of the feminine in a masculine body.
