Resumo - A ideia de que o português é uma língua pouco adequada ao canto é, cada vez mais,
considerada um mito. Não é possível, no entanto, ignorar que cada língua, quando cantada,
apresenta alguns problemas a nível da fonética e da fonologia que é preciso resolver, de modo
a favorecer não só a execução vocal da composição, mas também a perceção do texto. Nas
várias Escolas Europeias existe um conjunto de regras estabelecidas para a interpretação
fonológica dos textos cantados nas línguas nacionais, o que é uma lacuna em relação à Escola
Portuguesa, apesar da necessidade sentida tanto por maestros como por cantores.
No presente trabalho, é apresentada uma proposta de resolução de alguns deles, tendo em
vista a interpretação de obras do repertório português dos compositores Fernando Lopes-
Graça, Eurico Carrapatoso e Miguel Jesus, sobre poemas de cariz tradicional e outros de
Bocage, Ricardo Reis e Sophia de Mello Breyner Andresen. O resultado dessa proposta será
validado pela apresentação dessas obras, em concerto.
Abstract - The idea that the Portuguese language is not suitable for singing is being increasingly considered as a myth. Nevertheless, it cannot be ignored that, when singing, each language presents its own phonetic and phonological problems, which need to be solved in order to favour the vocal performance of the composition and the perception of the words. The different European Schools have already established a set of rules for the phonological interpretation of the sung poems in their native languages. In the Portuguese School this is an omission felt most acutely by conductors and singers. This study presents a tentative solution to solve some of these problems, when a conductor approaches some works from the Portuguese coral repertoire, by such composers as Fernando Lopes-Graça, Eurico Carrapatoso and Miguel Jesus. These texts come from folk themes and from poems by Bocage, Ricardo Reis and Sophia de Mello Breyner Andresen. The outcome of this proposal is going to be validated on the presentation of those Works in a concert.
