Abstract(s)
ABSTRACT - Introduction: Oral cancer is defined by the International Classification of Diseases as a group of malignant tumors that arise in the oral cavity and usually appear as a single ulcerated oral lesion, installed on the base of the hardened mucosa. The prognosis and success of the treatment of this pathology are dependent on an early diagnosis and, therefore, the diagnosis must occur in the initial stages, therefore, all patients must be aware of the risk factors and symptomatology. Objectives: Determine the level of knowledge of patients about oral cancer. Methods: The sample was assumed to be of convenience, the data acquired through the online survey were voluntary and anonymous. Results: 100 valid responses were considered for statistical purposes. 68% were female and 32% were male. Of all respondents, the age group that most participated was the ages 18-25 with 59%. More than 77% of patients considered their knowledge as “Insufficient”. Discussion: A statistical relationship was established for all variables, with the calculation of their absolute and relative frequencies. Conclusion: Most patients are unaware of oral cancer. Which makes it difficult to detect it in the early stages.
