Abstract(s)
ABSTRACT - The following work deals with the composition of new repertoire and its performance by a jazz quintet, taking into account the importance of tradition, creativity and interaction in jazz. The artistic challenge consisted in articulating my various musical influences, creating an original repertoire related to jazz, and influenced by a quotation of Charles Mingus that defines true creativity as the act of making complicated simple. The other focal point of the art project was the theory that defines creativity as the reorganization of different elements, in an original and effective manner, taking into account the role of moderation in the creative act as a form of avoiding ideas that do are not useful. In order to achieve the proposed goals, the repertoire was composed through improvisations and musical explorations, inspired by the concept of play by Stephen Nachmanovitch, which considers that the creative act is not accomplished by the intellect itself but by making free and uncompromised relations of various elements and concepts. The music experimented and discussed between the musicians during the rehearsals, with the purpose of enrolling every musician in the development of the repertoire and stimulating sound and group musical interaction. Initially I related theoretically the artistic project to the jazz tradition, then it is presented the importance of creativity in this music genre and in the repertoire developed, and it is examined the value of interaction between musicians as a key feature in jazz and in my project. In a second part, I introduce the guiding concepts of composition and development of the repertoire, and present a verbal description of each composition.
