O presente trabalho, desenvolvido no âmbito do Mestrado em Jornalismo da Escola Superior de Comunicação Social do Instituto Politécnico de Lisboa, visa a obtenção do grau de mestre e resulta de um estágio curricular de seis meses, entre 15 de janeiro e 15 de julho de 2024, na estação televisiva SIC.
O estudo de caso analisa o acompanhamento de uma investigação orientada pela equipa da Grande Reportagem sobre os abusos sexuais na Igreja Católica Portuguesa, explorando as estratégias dos jornalistas até chegaram à informação. O objetivo desta investigação é compreender o processo jornalístico, desde a escolha do tema até à decisão de investigação, os métodos de investigação utilizados pelos jornalistas, bem como os desafios e constrangimentos enfrentados numa investigação jornalística televisiva.
Este relatório de estágio também tem como objetivo compreender os diferentes conceitos e características do jornalismo de investigação, traçar o perfil do jornalista de investigação e perceber as especificidades do jornalismo de investigação televisivo na época atual. Assim, através de uma pesquisa bibliográfica (revisão da literatura sobre jornalismo de investigação e os seus métodos) e não documental (entrevistas exploratórias aos profissionais responsáveis pela investigação da SIC e observação participante), pretende-se compreender como é realizada uma investigação no canal televisivo privado, contribuindo para um melhor entendimento dos métodos de investigação utilizados numa reportagem.
ABSTRACT: The present study, developed within the scope of the Master's in Journalism at the Escola Superior de Comunicação Social of the Instituto Politécnico de Lisboa, aims to obtain the master's degree and results from a six-month curricular internship, from 15th January to 15th July 2024, at the television station SIC. This case study critically analyses the coverage of an investigation undertaken by the Grande Reportagem team regarding instances of sexual abuse within the Portuguese Catholic Church, with particular emphasis on the methods employed by journalists to acquire information. The primary objective of this study is to elucidate the journalistic process, encompassing the selection of the topic, the decision to pursue an inquiry, the investigative methods employed, and the various challenges and constraints encountered during the course of television journalism. This internship report also aims to explore the various concepts and characteristics of investigative journalism, delineate the profile of an investigative journalist and examine the specificities of television journalism. Through bibliographic research (a literature review on investigative journalism and its methodologies) and non-documentary methods (exploratory interviews with professionals involved in the SIC coverage and participant observation), the report seeks to illuminate how investigations are conducted at the private television channel, thereby enhancing our understanding of the methodologies employed in reporting.
