Abstract(s)
terror.
ABSTRACT - Women’s internal pain is oft and (somewhat) diversely portrayed in horror cinema. This dissertation sought to explore an apparent trend within the genre, as well as cinema at large, to make women’s pain (particularly loneliness) be accompanied by spiritual and supernatural elements. A potential storytelling tendency was noted, where women’s suffering is portrayed as something so complex and inconceivable, that it sometimes becomes necessary to refer to mystical elements to adequately portray its scope. As a result, tales of feminine suffering often end up aligning themselves with some of horror’s characteristic features, making it a fitting genre to talk about women’s internal turmoil.
