| dc.description.abstract | Abstract -The purpose of this investigation was to analyze and compare the effectiveness of baton and hand conducting, and see if one is in fact better than the other. The piece chosen as object of this investigation was the Soldier’s Tale, by the russian composer Igor Stravinsky. In order to obtain the necessary data for analysis and a possible conclusion, conductor colleagues and the musicians who will present the chosen piece in a final recital were subjected to an interview, in order for them to share their opinions on the matter, and the investigator himself was recorded during the rehearsals, alternating between using and not using a baton. The interviews were then transcribed and coded in order to find patterns and perspectives shared on the topic, and the videos were analyzed on the basis of several previously chosen musical parameters, clarity of the gesture, and the use of the left hand. Finally, the collected opinions and analyzed videos served as a basis for reflection and comparison, in order to arrive at a universal truth that serves as a reference for any conductor that is dealing with similar conditions as the ones presented in this study, and that brings a new way of thinking and acting when it comes to the art and teaching of conducting. | pt_PT |
| dc.description.abstract | Resumo - O objectivo desta investigação foi analisar e comparar a eficiência de direcção de orquestra com e sem batuta, e perceber se uma é de facto melhor que a outra. A peça seleccionada como objecto de investigação foi a História do Soldado do compositor russo Igor Stravinsky, devido à sua complexidade musical que obriga uma maior atenção por parte dos músicos. De forma a obter dados para análise e tentativa de resposta a esta pergunta, colegas maestros e os músicos que irão apresentar a peça escolhida num recital final foram sujeitos a uma entrevista para partilharem a sua opinião na matéria, e o próprio investigador foi filmado a dirigir em ensaio, alternando a utilização ou não da batuta. As entrevistas foram depois transcritas e codificadas de modo a encontrar padrões e perspectivas partilhadas acerca deste tópico, e os vídeos analisados baseando-se na eficácia de vários parâmetros musicais previamente escolhidos, na clareza do gesto e utilização da mão esquerda. Por fim, as opiniões recolhidas e os vídeos avaliados serviram como base de reflexão e comparação, de modo a chegar a uma verdade universal que sirva de referência a qualquer maestro que esteja perante condições semelhantes àquelas apresentadas neste estudo, e que traga uma nova maneira de pensar e agir no que toca à arte e ensino da direcção de orquestra. | pt_PT |
