Abstract(s)
ABSTRACT: On this project work, a script is developed for a short film adapted from the original novel “The Picture of Dorian Gray” by Oscar Wilde. Human beings have always tried to find answers regarding their existence. The soul, which belongs to you, is something complex and fragmented. With this work I come to explore issues that Oscar Wilde reflected in his work: the hipocrisy of society, disbelief and the loss of the human essence. First, it became necessary to understand how, and why, this novel is still so current, being the object of several reinterpretations over the decades in audiovisual. After watching several films, I did an in-depth research into Aristotle’s Poetics and Adaptation Studies. These steps proved to be essential to gain more tools about this world, which are adaptations, and develop the path to my script in a capable and precise way. Throughout the project itself, I worked with diferente concepts: Aestheticism, Decadence, Authenticity, as well as symbols and colors, which were important foundations for the narrative of the story as a whole. With these elements, I was able to clearly convey the message present in the script, and already implemented in Wilde’s novel: The Decay of the Human Soul.
