Abstract(s)
ABSTRACT Socioemotional development is a lifelong key feature, within the individual and in relation with the others. For this development contributes the transmission and integration of boundaries, which adequate the individual to the external world. Since the first years of life are crucial for that development, we emphasize the kindergarten’s role in that. This report is an exploratory case study in the domain of the limits in the kindergarten, with the participation of eleven parents, one kindergarten teacher, one educational assistant and twenty children between the ages of three and six. In the internship context, it is explored with the several educative agents the importance of limits and its relation with the child’s socioemotional development and group management, through survey by questionnaire (families), semi-structured interviews (kindergarten team) and focus groups (children). The results are qualitatively analyzed, through content analysis, crossing this with the theoretical basis, as well as with the field notes taken during the internship. We stress the conclusion of the importance of limits, and that this is understandable by the several groups involved in the study, aligned with the theoretical basis. We conclude that it is important to assertively define limits, which promote child security for her movement in the group, and that, at the same time, allow the education professional to manage the group in positive ways.
