Abstract(s)
ABSTRACT The present report was made in the ambit of Supervised Professional Practice II (PPS II), belonging to the 2.º year of master’s degree in Pre-School Education. The main objective of this report is based in the description of all the experiences lived throughout the practice carried out in a kindergarten context, with a group of children aged between three and four years, as well as the investigation of a theme that emerged during the previous. Through the observations made in practice, during the different times the group spent abroad and its close contact with nature, as well as all the opportunities provided by the educational team for children to have these moments, I realized the importance of exploration the nature, privileging the pedagogical model implemented in the socio-educational organization: the Highscope. From this reflection emerged the theme for the investigation present in this report: the importance of exploring nature in HighScope. Based on a qualitative research approach, this report follows the guidelines of a case study. For data collection, I relied not only on direct participant observation, which resulted in field notes and photographic records, but also on indirect observation, through interviews carried out with educators from the different areas of the socio-educational organization in question, with the aim of objective of understanding the conception about the importance of exploring nature and this same importance in the implemented pedagogical model. In the interviews, I also intended to provoke reflection on the importance of exploring nature as an integral part of the educator’s practice. Demystifying the differences between time spent outdoors and contact with nature, based on the data collected, the exploration of nature is a key moment in the development and learning of the child, a moment that boosts the development of skills and abilities of the same. In addition, this time helps children understand the world around them and develop a perception of reality. In the HighScope model, this moment is essential because it is through contact with the outside and, consequently, with nature, that one learn. Although the research focuses on the importance of exploring nature in HighScope, it is clear that exploring nature is an essential moment in every child’s daily life.
