ABSTRACT - Deriving from the etymological origin of the concept of gesture as an action of carrying, this text focuses on a phenomenological approach to the dancerâs experience of movement, who, by playing with the weight of their body, delves into the primary and paradoxical nature intrinsic to the act of resisting the force of gravity. Based on the written legacy of the iconic dancer Doris Humphrey, the force of resistance is presented here as a force of movement that, in the paradoxical tension between its limits, generates the vibrant movement of life. Lastly, drawing from the intensification of the dancerâs proprioceptive sense and based on studies in the field of embodied cognition, we propose a mode of meaning-making that emerges from the paradoxical and porous nature of movement, challenging the dualistic structure of classical thought.
