Abstract(s)
ABSTRACT: Family Health Units cover more than 60% of the total number of users enrolled in primary health care in Portugal. In addition to the provision of health care, their mission is to promote health and prevent disease. This article argues that communication, as an intentional and planned process, contributes to achieving the objectives of an organization and fulfilling its mission. However, until the date of this research, nothing is known about the role played or the relevance of communication in the Family Health Units (FHU). Thus, our starting question is: "In what way is the communication developed by FHUs contributing to the fulfilment of their mission, regarding health promotion and disease prevention?". Our data sources were the questionnaires sent to the coordinators of the family health units. From the data obtained, it was observed that Family Health Units value the role of communication for health, but lack the human resources to implement an effective communication strategy that allows them to fulfill their purposes.
