Abstract(s)
a determinado ritual.
ABSTRACT: Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder is defined by a strong dominance of intrusive thoughts called obsessions. These thoughts, although common in any individual, are excessive in patients with obsessive-compulsive disorder, raising their anxiety levels and causing them enormous suffering. In direct response to this suffering, the patient develops rituals that, in his head, attenuate the thoughts. These rituals are called compulsions. These compulsions can reach disproportionate measures and consume a large part of the patient's daily life, which can substantially reduce their quality of life and affect them both socially and professionally. Through literature review and analysis of supportive research, it was understood that, as a treatment for this pathology, health professionals apply risk exposure techniques while helping the patient to deconstruct obsessive thoughts. This set of techniques is called Cognitive Behavior Therapy. As applications that are predisposed to respond to this problem already exist in the market, we identified the need to present a proposal that would fill gaps, such as the lack of a more effective customization of the suggested tasks and a certain passivity with regard to association of the suggested activities with the thought that initiates a certain ritual. Thus, this project proposes a multimedia technology that allows these patients to control and reduce the compulsions associated with cleaning and germs, through tasks based on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy completely customizable by the user, associated with gamification techniques, in order to encourage and retain the users while monitoring their performance. The goal is that this technology can be freely used by patients with OCD; however, it can also be seen as a possible extension to conventional therapy, never being suggested as a replacement for it.
