Abstract(s)
This masters’ theme came from a proposal from the Laboratório Nacional de Engenharia Civil (LNEC). Firstly, it presents the results of a literature review, both national and international, concerning earthquakes which took place in regions with similar building typologies to those of Portugal, as well as its consequences with respect to the building stock. Afterwards, an analysis of the data collected from the 2011 Censuses is carried out, in what refers to characterizing the Portuguese building typologies. Subsequently, it presents the work proposed by LNEC for the adaptation of the post-earthquake inspection manual “Field manual for post-earthquake damage and safety assessment and short term countermeasures (AeDES)“, prepared by the JRC Science Hub – European Commission, and its respective form are adapted to the Portuguese case. Finally, consolidation and stabilization measures, already used in Italy, are identified and analysed based on the “Manuale Opere Provvisionali L’intervento Tecnico in Emergenza Sísmica” from the Corpo Nazionale dei Vigili del Fuoco. This work is intended to be used later as the starting point for the elaboration of technical recommendations for future seismic events occurring in Portugal. This topic is of great importance, given the absence in Portugal of a practical guide with measures for the inspection, consolidation and stabilization of structures after an earthquake event. The fast implementation of structural assessment actions and consolidation measures is of paramount importance in the post-earthquake damage mitigation to structures, as well as in the rescue of affected people and in the protection of historical buildings.
