Abstract(s)
ABSTRACT - This internship report was developed within the scope of the Master's in Dance Teaching at the Escola Superior de Dança, Instituto Politécnico de Lisboa, during the academic year 2024/2025. The study stemmed from a personal interest in the pedagogical potential of the contemporary duet, combined with the perception of a gap in the approach to this practice within the context of Specialized Artistic Education. The intervention took place in the Contemporary Dance Technique discipline at the cooperating school PALLCº - Performing Arts School & Conservatory, involving a mixed class from the 3rd cycle and secondary education. Focusing on the contemporary duet, the aim was to enhance students’ technical, personal, and relational development through an approach integrating body awareness, active listening, physical contact, and shared attention. The internship adopted an Action-Research methodology, grounded in a qualitative approach, with data collected through questionnaires, written records by students, focus groups, a logbook, and audiovisual recordings. The data was analyzed using content analysis, allowing for the identification of patterns of technical, interpersonal, and reflective development throughout the internship. The results indicated progress in movement quality, body awareness, and interpersonal communication, reflected in an increasing ability to negotiate weight and intentions, as well as in mutual dialogue and adaptation within the duet context. The contemporary duet proved to be an effective strategy for promoting the articulation between technique, expressivity, and relationship, and demonstrated that contemporary duet, when explored with consistency and intentionality, constitutes a pedagogical tool with tangible impact on students’ technical and relational development. The combination of improvisational tasks and structured exercises was particularly effective in fostering meaningful and integrated learning in dance. The consistency of the observed outcomes reinforces the relevance of deepening this type of work in similar contexts, whether through its integration into the Contemporary Dance Technique curriculum or as a field of research within dance pedagogy.
