Abstract In an increasingly competitive market, ensuring the operational availability of a fleet is fundamental to guaranteeing efficient logistics operations and customer satisfaction. In this context, the main aim of this dissertation was to analyse the impact of maintenance activities on the availability of a fleet of vehicles, proposing improvements to reduce the periods of unavailability caused. To this end, essential concepts of fleet management, preventive and corrective maintenance were studied, as well as the importance of efficient planning and performance measurement to reduce inefficiencies. Based on this theoretical review, an analysis model was developed capable of identifying the main factors influencing availability and proposing improvement strategies. The practical application of the model to a real fleet allowed maintenance data to be collected and processed, highlighting the significant impact that inefficient maintenance management can have. In the case studied, the total hours of unavailability recorded proved to be much higher than the target set by the company, confirming the need for improvement. The results obtained indicate that through more structured planning and greater anticipation of interventions, it would be possible to considerably reduce vehicle downtime and, consequently, improve operational availability. Overall, this work has demonstrated the importance of a systematic approach to maintenance management, reinforcing the idea that efficiency in this area is a determining factor in the overall performance of operations.
