Abstract(s)
This report was prepared within the scope of the Curricular Unit of Supervised Professional Practice II (PPSII), and aims to present in a systematic, reflective and grounded way my educational practice as a trainee educator, throughout the internship period, highlighting the learning carried out. This practice took place in the context of a Kindergarten, more specifically in a room of 25 children, aged between 3 and 5 years. In this sense, several topics are presented that reflect the entire intervention process, namely the characterization of the socio-educational context, the educational intentions that sustain my pedagogical practice, the introduction of research in kindergarten, the evaluation processes and the final considerations. During the Supervised Professional Practice, the most significant issue that gives its name to this report emerged: “The challenge in outer space: playing and learning outside the activity room”. This problem emerges from the observation of the children’s enormous interest in outdoor time and the constraints imposed by the works that were carried out in the institution’s outdoor park. After raising some questions, some objectives were defined according to the identified problem, namely: i) To study the contributions of the exploration of outdoor space to play in kindergarten, ii) To ascertain the importance of outdoor space in kindergarten and iii) To study children’s preferences, the relationship and play between children in different outdoor spaces. Data collection was based on different techniques and instruments, mainly: direct participant and non-participant observation, through observation records (field notes), questionnaire survey with open-ended questions and a semi-structured interview, which was guided by a script prepared for this study. All the action and practice developed by me with the group of children, with the educational team, with the families and the context, as well as all the research developed, resulted in a reasoned reflection and, consequently, in an enormous learning, not only alluding to the theme of the research, but also to the perspective of the educator I intend to be in the future.
