Abstract(s)
As
ABSTRACT - This text configures the Final Project Report on the creative process of the dance piece Atopos, co-created and co-interpreted with Miguel Santos, in the context of the Master's Degree in Choreographic Creation and Professional Practices at Escola Superior de Dança. With this document, it’s intended to establish, through writing, an investigative vector that dialogues and adds to the process developed in the studio, approaching the creative process chronologically, expressively, sensorially to form new layers of its understanding. Starting from the thematic potential of the concept of atopos, through the lens of Roland Barthes in the book Fragments of a Lover’s Discourse, the concepts of sinister, landscape and poetry were fundamental in the consideration of the artistic expression for the choreographic work. The main tools developed in the studio for movement generation, selection and composition were free and structured improvisation, the exaltation of the expressiveness of common actions, the temporal and spatial mapping of choreographic proposals and the use of word as motto for movement. Based on the experiences and development of methods that enabled the choreographic creation, internal reflections were formed regarding the impact of plurality in shared creative processes and the relationship that the performer and the movement establish with the scenic elements. These observations, developed in dialogue with other authors and artists, in parallel with the initial thematic interests, impacted the creative process and informed thoughts about the piece's dramaturgy. The concept of clouds, which is inspired by José Gil's proposal that they are the becoming of the visible movement of dance, which is always dense, unfocused and ephemeral, allows us to think of the piece's mode of expression as an artifice that does not reveal itself entirely, and therefore it attracts, but it dissolves itself, and therefore it approaches. Atopos' proposal, associated with the potential of the clouds to make impulse flow, through desire, the mode of agency of impulse, is, in addition to being a choreographic piece, an investigation of the expressive, social, ethical and political potential of dance.
