Abstract(s)
performance.
destes elementos, enumerar recursos e características, compreender o funcionamento do
ABSTRACT - The use of instrumental voice is present in the jazz singers’ performance since the beginnings of the jazz tradition. As an aesthetic that has changed with time, it is considered an approach that allows a lot of creative freedom, whether in written or improvised music. Characteristics of excellence are expected from these singers, who are compared to other instruments, both in the technical and theoretical domain as in the creative and philosophical field. This study focused on the modus operandi of four singers, in order to understand how they deal with aspects of vocal “instrumentalization” in their performance. Getting to know how they approach musical pieces from a theoretical, emotional and interpretive point of view was intended to be a way of organizing this information, so that other singers can follow this path, if they want to. In this process it was also very important to understand the historical course of the use of the voice as an instrument, to enumerate its features and characteristics, understand the functioning of the vocal anatomy and to establish patterns that help to understand how one interprets in these situations.
