Abstract(s)
This final report was produced within the framework of the Curricular Unit Supervised Teaching Practice II (PES II), part of the second year of the Master’s Degree in Teaching the 1st Cycle of Basic Education and Mathematics and Natural Sciences in the 2nd Cycle of Basic Education at the Lisbon School of Education. The document is structured into three main sections: (I) a reflective account of the teaching practice undertaken; (II) an investigative study conducted with a 3rd-year primary class; and (III) a concluding reflection. The first section offers a critical and comparative analysis of the teaching experiences in both the 1st and 2nd cycles of basic education. It addresses the specific characteristics of the classes involved and the pedagogical relationships developed throughout PES II. The second section presents the results of an investigative study focused on understanding how engaging in statistical investigations supported by digital resources can foster the learning processes of 3rd-year pupils. The study was guided by two central research questions: (i) What statistical knowledge do students develop across the different stages of the statistical investigation? and (ii) What learning outcomes, particularly in the domain of data collection and processing, are enhanced by the integration of digital tools? A qualitative, action researchinspired methodology was adopted, involving a class of 17 third-grade pupils. Data collection instruments included diagnostic worksheets and semi-structured interviews conducted at both the beginning and end of the intervention, alongside participant observation recorded in a reflective teaching journal and photographic documentation. The data were subsequently analyzed using content analysis techniques. Findings indicate a positive impact on the development of pupils’ statistical competences. The study concludes that conducting statistical investigations supported by digital resources significantly enhances the learning processes of 3rd-year pupils.
