Abstract(s)
O objetivo deste trabalho é entender de que forma é que os correspondentes
estrangeiros escolhem e selecionam as informações que transmitem, de Portugal para o
mundo. A cobertura jornalística dos correspondentes é essencial: são eles quem nos abre
a janela para o mundo. Cada vez mais, as agências tendem a monopolizar esse espaço de
informação. No entanto, os órgãos jornalísticos continuam a apostar na figura do
correspondente estrangeiro, porque o olhar será diferente. O que os leva então a cobrir
determinado assunto, em detrimento de outros? Como tomam as suas decisões? O que
fazem no dia-a-dia e porque é que as suas rotinas são diferentes das dos restantes
jornalistas?
Para poder responder à questão inicial da seleção noticiosa, é necessário entender
como é que estes jornalistas evoluem nas suas rotinas profissionais. O presente trabalho
parte da opinião de que temos uma ideia muito reduzida daquilo que os jornalistas, e neste
caso, os correspondentes estrangeiros, fazem no dia-a-dia, como e porquê. Este trabalho
pretende erguer-se face ao preceito de uma morte lenta mas segura da profissão de
correspondente. Num contexto de abundância de informação, serão os correspondentes
estrangeiros considerados como cada vez mais necessários enquanto “produtores de
significado”?
ABSTRACT: The purpose of this research is to understand how does the work routine of foreign correspondents evolves, and how do they choose the subjects they cover in Portugal and publish all over the world. Foreign correspondents are essential actors of the international news, they are the gatekeepers of world events. But their key role face many obstacles like the omnipresence of internet, the abundance of information and the monopolization of some international agencies in the world news panorama. Why is their work essential and brings distinction and diferenciation to the media they work for ? How do they select the events that will turn into « news » ? How do they take decisions and what is their routine like ? I started the study from the principle that news receptors in general have no idea of what foreign correspondents do and how do they behave in their everyday lives. Yet, those moments define the way they make decisions concerning the selection of events to be covered. I intend to rise up against the precept of a sure but slow death of the foreign correspondent profession. Shouldn’t we, more than ever, specially in this context of abundance of information, consider foreign correspondents as essential gatekeepers and « meaning producers »?
