Abstract(s)
e o contexto cultural e sociológico subjacente.
ABSTRACT: Academic studies on cultural journalism of literature are scarce. In this paper, we seek not only to define and understand this field, but also to present a theoretical conceptualization around the concepts of culture, cultural journalism, literary journalism and literary magazines and culture in the digital environment. It also seeks to trace the evolution of this specialty in Portugal, to define the main trends and to understand if and how it maintains its function as a cultural intermediary and mediator as far as Portuguese literature is concerned. The object of study are four media outlets, that include books and the literary universe: Jornal de Letras, Artes e Ideias; Ler magazine, Ípsilon, a supplement of Público and the magazines Actual and E of the weekly Expresso. We carried out a quantitative and qualitative content analysis of the years 2010, 2015 and 2020 and we conducted interviews with the editors and/or directors and journalists of the publications, as well as with the writers present in the analyzed editions. In this way, it was possible to understand the evolution of the area in Portugal in the last decade and the underlying cultural and sociological context. We observed that these publications have been losing financial and human resources, which impacts their quality and credibility. Consequently, the space dedicated to books and criticism has decreased. In this research, we also found evidence that cultural journalism of literature is still play a role as mediator and intermediary of literature in Portuguese. However, writers already use other alternatives to reach their audience, such as social networks.
